I finally (!) managed to get the original designer of the theme to do the conversion (after 2 attempts by others) and he's done a great job of it.

He's actually come up with a better method of adding a slider to the front of the blog under the header, and in fact it's so nice now that I've made plans for where to use it myself on one of my sales sites.

I just have to bundle it all up with PSDs, banners etc and it's ready to go.

Speaking of which, it comes with a nice selection of pre-designed banners including blank JPEGs / PNGs and PSDs for them, plus umpteen sidebars, an additional page template, plus plugins (Ads Manager, Redirection, Squeeze Page Templates), and a set of theme options too.

The theme options allow you to turn on and off the featured content and top boxes and change footer text. The theme also supports the WP 3.x features of custom menus.  And finally, we've included a really nice slider area at the top under the menu where you can place presentational images, extra ads etc.

You can place content including an image into the slider simply by making a new post and then putting it into a category called "featured".  The theme will then pick up the first part of the text of the post and place it in the slider area – it's really cool.

If you want to add an image as part of the content of the slider, then you can use the built in WordPress "Featured Image" functionality just by editing the post and clicking "Set Featured Image".  You can then upload or choose an image from the library just as you would when adding any image to WordPress.

If you use an image with a transparent background then it will cleanly overlay and merge with the bacground of the theme.

It's amazingly simple to do and the results are stunning.

I'm going to use it as a showcase on one of my own sites, so watch out for that shortly.

First I'd like to give you a bit of background about the membership.  I opened it in November last year, and everything went fine until about March when my one and only designer took an office job in Singapore.  He still does some part time work for me.

Then I had to fire one of my plugin developers as he was supposedly working full time for me and (when he slipped up) we found out he was also working "full time" for one of my friends.  (No wonder he was getting slower and slower…)

This left me with a full time plugin developer and a part time designer.

And then to make matters worse, my remaining developer decided to go look for an office job too and also went part time in June.

While this was all going on I just couldn't find the right people to fill the gaps left behind and from April until now I've been struggling to fulfill the promise of 2 monthly PLR products as part of the membership.

It even got to the stage last month where I'd just about decided to close up shop on the membership as I couldn't see how I could continue to deliver products like I had been – I'm certainly not a designer or a plugin developer.

And then out of the blue I picked up two new designers, one of whom can create WordPress themes.  Hurrah!

This Friday we're going to have a little sale for a brand new plugin that will make your WordPress blog go crazy evil viral all over FaceBook.

Phew!  That sounds exciting doesn't it?

So what's it all about and what's up with the title?

I've done something I never thought I would.

I joined Facebook.

And the reason is because we've only gone and finally built a FaceBook plugin, haven't we?  I knew it was only a matter of time really, but I wanted any FB plugin we created to have some tie in to WordPress sites, and it had to have a marketing angle of course, something to do with driving FaceBook traffic to a blog.

And so eventually Like Plus (Like+) was born.  No it doesn't work with Google+ yet as we can't get a Google+ account to configure and test it with, but as soon as we can and IF it's possible, we'll incorporate G+ into it as well.

(Update: I now have a G+ account thanks to Tim who *just* beat Ray to the punch. Thanks guys. I'll try to put some time aside for it ASAP, I hae a couple of things I need to get finished first though.)

So I took one for the team and I joined FaceBook so I could use the plugin myself on my own sites.

What does it do?

Well, it's a little like another one of my plugins called "Subscribers Only".  In fact the principles behind it are very similar.

How it works is you can hide some important piece of text or HTML on one of your blog posts or pages, and it won't be revealed until AFTER your visitor clicks the FaceBook "Like" button.

Aha!

So your visitor clicks the Like button on your post or page for a ZIP or PDF or whatever it is you're offering, and ONLY then can they get at what they're after.

In return, YOU get a new "Like" on their FaceBook wall, which is then included in ALL their friends FaceBook Newsfeeds…

Muhahaha! 

Sorry…

I'm sure you can straight away see how viral this can make your blog?  Hence the evil laugh. 

Their friends will see what they "Liked", and some of them will click.  Some of them will "Like" it too  in order to get at your hidden goodie.  And it will then appear on their wall and their friends newsfeeds…  And so on.

You'd use it in conjunction with some killer offer you come up with to get people to Like it for you. Here's the sequence of events:-

#1 – Once your visitor has liked it the content reveals itself – it could be a link to download a report they want.

#2 – In the background the Like then appears on their wall and in their newsfeed.

#3 – Their friends then get to see they've Liked something and may click the link to see what it is.

#4 – They read the offer and decide they want it too.

#5 – They Like it. Goto #1.

Viral or what?

The way I see it is, it needs to be used judiciously.  If you put it on every single post and page then it will almost immediately lose its effect.  People won't want to "Like" everything on your blog.

What you need to do is set up a killer offer on a page or post.  Something really good.  Something where visitors will go "Yeah! I want! I Like!"

I've tested it, had it tweaked and re-tested and then had it tweaked some more. I'm happy with it.  So on Friday 12th at 6.00pm GMT we'll have a little rising price sale.

Now I *could* be really evil and require you to "Like" the post or page first before you can get the link to the sales page, but for now I'm just toying with that idea.

I may even require you to "Like" the page to reveal the buy button. 

Yeah I might just do that.  Or some variant on it.

Here's another idea.

Maybe you get to see the regular buy button with the regular price, but if you "Like" the page for me, then you get to see the discounted buy button instead.

Ooh yeah!  There's LOTS of ways you could use this when you stop to think about it isn't there?

And the upshot is, it makes your page VERY popular.

NOW can you see how powerfully viral this is?

Really POWERFUL marketing stuff…

I'm usually quite busy, but it's nothing compared to what I've been doing this last two weeks and I'm a little bit hyper right now as I gradually discharge some of my outstanding responsibilities.  Thanks for your patience with me, I'm really grateful for that, and I'll publicly explain what's been going on soon.

Anyway…

While we're STILL waiting for MST007 to be completed (you may already know the sorry tale about this, but I've MORE to tell soon) the original designer has just about completed MST009.

As usual it's really nice (my wife wants this one on a blog she's putting together with a friend), and I think I might end up using this one on the PluginGreat site.  Notably, he's gone for a different slider routine that auto-adjusts itself depending on how deep the image is.

This means that instead of being stuck with a fixed depth slider, you can now make your images as deep or as shallow as you like to suit both your taste and your blog.

When this sale is over, this theme will be the first one I'll put on sale on the MST web site.

(Yes, at last I'll be doing that too.  It's ALL happening at once…)

Now then.  When I make it live, I'll put it on sale for $27 and add the others as I go, but in this pre-launch sale it will be available to the first FIFTY customers for just $10.

Okay, so what's it look like and what features will it have?

Back to this last plugin…

The original idea was for a plugin that could switch the payment button depending on where the traffic was coming from.  The reason being that if it was affiliate traffic, then it could show a ClickBank button, and if it was plain old search traffic, it would show a PayPal button and you get paid right away.

But I then realised it would be more realistically used to switch in and out absolutely any HTML at all.

So for instance if the traffic to the site was from a search engine, then the plugin would detect this, and show a snippet of HTML according to the rule you set up.

This could be an image/banner ad, or a special deal for new subscribers or whatever.

We also included the ability to add multiple rules, and we decided it should be as flexible as possible in order to show different HTML for different circumstances.  So you can add multiple click sources to one of your rules, and also use * wildcards with them.

Like this:-

*.google.*
*.yahoo.*
*.bing.*

If none of the rules are met, then it will show some default HTML you added, or even nothing at all.

That last one is so that if someone has bookmarked your site or is following an email link that you've sent them, then clearly they're already regular visitors, so you won't want to show them an ad to subscribe.

Make sense?

Tomorrow at 6.00pm GMT I'll be running what I believe is this last plugin sale for a while through this blog.

It's NOT the end of an era though, as I don't intend to stop altogether.  This will just be a little pause in the process while I readjust everything.

It *is* a cool effect, and I do that with a plugin I released at the beginning of the year called "Delayed Widgets".  It adds a little delay timer to ALL of your widgets (where possible – most of them) so that you can choose how long before the widget reveals itself in your sidebar(s).

It *was* currently on sale at $17 here on my blog, but as Hamant is so excited about getting this I asked him if he'd like me to run a quick sale, and he said yes.  (I have a tight schedule on at the moment and I'm running out of time.)

So effectively immediately for the next couple of days, I'm making a final 30 copies for sale at $10 her in this post.

Today 8th July at 6.00pm GMT (1.00pm EST plus Summer variants), I'll be opening a weekend sale for two of my favourite plugins.  You may have missed them in the last 12 months, and now is your last chance to get them at a discounted price before they get added to the affiliate scheme and go live.

The first is called the Content Replacement plugin, and what it does is replace small (or large) snippets of text and code on your blog posts and pages based on a date and time.

I use it all the time, in fact I'm going to be using it today to run part of these sales.

So what you can do with it is set a time and date you want the text or HTML to appear on your post, and another time you want it to disappear.  Both fields are optional so you can do things like publish a snippet of content right now and have it disappear at 9.00am tomorrow morning.

Or set some content to appear tomorrow at 9.00am and have it stay there forever.

It's incredibly useful, and I didn't realise how useful until I started using it.

It works by you adding the HTML and setting time(s) and date(s), and it then creates unique [short-code-tags] for you.  You then paste these tags where you want the text or HTML to appear, and when they're active they show, and when they're not, they don't.  Simple.

You can also stack them so that you can have text and HTML swapping in and out at different dates and times.

Today at 6.00pm, it will cause some text and two payment buttons to appear for each of the plugins, and at 9.00am on Monday, the payment buttons will disappear and be replaced by text that says "Offer Closed".

Once I've set it up, I can forget it and go worry about other things. 

The other plugin is called "Subscribers Only", and this one I don't use on my personal blog, but I do use it on other blogs in my network.

It's very useful for gathering WordPress subscribers.

It works in a similar way to the Content Replacement plugin above, but in this case the content only shows when someone joins your blog as a WordPress subscriber.

So once you've added your code and placed it on the page where you want it to appear, your WordPress subscribers won't see anything out of the normal.

However, non-subscribers instead see a little padlock symbol and a message saying the content is for subscribers only with a link where they can go subscribe.

It's very cool and I use it on niche blogs together with the WordPress Autoresponder.

For this final weekend sale, both plugins are just $10 EACH if you missed them first time round.

While we're all waiting for the first version of Affiliate Click Pal to be officially released in the next few days, I thought we'd have another pre-order sale – this one for Multiple Streams Theme Seven (MST007).

I know that in the image it looks like a carousel, but that's an "artists impression" if you like and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I admit the design looks really cool, and if we can include a carousel style rotating image that will be great, but more likely is it will be a slider.

Here's something interesting. (Oh come on, it's ALL interesting.)

While looking at carousels, we came across a jquery slider that looks really good, and I think we want to move to this.

(In case you didn't know, jquery is much better to use than Flash as the CPU load is waaay lower, and that means that people using older slower machines will get the same experience as someone using a brand new one. Not so with Flash. Anyway, back to the plot…)

This jquery slider we found will slide images, text AND videos. Aha!

Now we think THAT would be something that a LOT of people would find very useful.

And the especially interesting thing to me is because it's jquery, any text and links in the text parts of the slider will be picked up by the search engines. You can't do that with Flash.

So what I'm now thinking is that if it all turns out to be good, we'll move to this new jquery script and "retro-fit" MST008 with this slider instead of the original.

This is all TBC at the moment, but we'll know in the next few days if we can do this.

One last thing.

WordPress Authors In Google Search

Just before sending this out, Ron M (hi Ron) sent me some info about author images that Google are implementing in search. (In fact they seem to have a LOT of new social stuff coming in at the moment, which ultimately means bye bye FaceBook.)

Please be patient if we can't get this in for v1 of this new theme. It's brand spanking new, announced today (June 30th) by Google.

What this new feature in search does is it displays an author image next to the search result in Google if the right tags are implemented within the theme. WordPress 3.2 will include full support for this.

Now you might be wondering why this is so important. It's simple.

Tests have proven that people are more likely to bond or accept a page or site if a photo of the author/owner is displayed. I have one on my own site for that very reason.

Google are now offering to display a photo even before people get to the site.

That WILL improve click throughs.

Think about it. All of Googles search results are plain text apart from videos. Anything that highlights a post such as a thumbnail photo is going to make it stand out from the rest.

And it's free.

As long as you get the right tags in the right place, AND you have a Google profile, your photo will show next it. I think it's probably worth the one-off effort to get this sorted for yourself. I'll be getting mine online in the next few days.

We're not totally sure just yet as to how this works exactly, and if we can implement this in the theme before release, we will. I REALLY want this feature included, and if we can't get it out for v1, we'll add it in an update.

P.S. The Slide-Up Ads plugin has been updated AGAIN this week and is now at v1.2.0. We fixed a couple of minor styling issues, one of which was preventing some of the new templates from displaying, and the other moved the ad text up slightly to make it more appealing.

Update #2: We've just fixed some minor styling issues which were causing the graphics not to show on some templates, and also moved the text up almost a line so that it looks better in the slide up. The latest version is now v1.2.0 and you can get it from your personal download page.

Just unzip and then upload the plugin folder into your /plugins/ directory in your WordPress installation, overwriting everything.

A couple of years ago I did one little thing to my blog that more than doubled my subscriber sign ups…

By doing absolutely nothing extra to my blog other than installing this little tool, then since then I've dramatically increased the number of subscribers.

I have proven beyond any measure of a doubt that putting a slide-up ad on my blog increased my mailing list sign-ups by 249% in the first week of use. I know that sounds incredible, but it's something that just can't be ignored.

My stats for the 12 months leading up to the installation of the script were for approximately every 17 visitors, someone subscribes. I get a lot of repeat visitors who are already subscribed, so I've been okay with that figure of 17-1 and I thought it was pretty good for a blog.

But it turns out I was WRONG. Big time wrong.

By using a slide-up I immediately pushed that number up to nearly 6-1.

After a week of use I found I was getting a new subscriber for every 6 or 7 visitors – that's just under 2.5 times more subscribers.

You have GOT to take notice of results like those, and it's been one of the most amazing things I've seen.

For every 10 new subscribers you've been picking up from visitors to your sites, then suddenly you can push that number up to 25 from the same amount of visitors just by using this plugin.

Considering the industry standard rate that a subscriber to your mailing list can mean up to a dollar a month in income, then you have to ask yourself just what are you losing by not using it?

Note in that last image that there's the usual X (which always appears on the ad), an optional minimise button which will allow the visitors to close the ad for a period you decide, and also an optional power button which will close the ad permanently until you use the "Reset Viewers" check box on the admin panel settings page.
