Amin:

The other guy may have first movers advantage, but that doesn't mean it's all over for you.

Get it out there now. By next week even if that's possible. Then find JV partners to promote it for you to begin with while your affiliate base grows.

If you find just one JV partner a week (write to 10 or more each week) I reckon 6-12 months from now you'll be a force in your field.

People won't say "yeah, he was second", they'll say "have you seen?"

Frank, I just had to comment on this point:

"...doing stuff is more important than thinking about it..."

I'd probably change that to "doing stuff is more important than *just* thinking about it", but right there you probably have 95% of everything you ever need to be successful in life.

DO SOMETHING!

Personal lesson: For the past 10 years I've been involved in the personal improvement arena and I've learned a lot about a couple of technologies in particular that work brilliantly.

One of them, I've been meaning to "get around" to launching as a product for, well, forever!

So now somebody else has beaten me to the punchline by doing it and he's already established a reputation as the guy to go to for this technology.

His got improved *after* he launched it. Mine has been getting tweaked to perfection and nobody knows about it.

Anyone want to guess which one of us makes more money off the technology???

No clues, but it isn't me.

I've launched several other self-improvement products that are doing well, but this particular one I wanted to have all the bells and whistles (insider joke) and be a flagship product.

Sometimes, looking for perfection is a good thing, because at least you're aiming in the right direction. But sometimes, it's a way of not putting yourself on the line at all.

"Ready, Fire! Aim…" - but I might miss!

Well, you'll miss for sure if you never fire!

Jerry:

Sorry, I missed your question on the first pass. The Nickel Script is a PHP script that runs on your web server and is delivered in a zip file, with the docs in PDF format.

I think probably something like Stuffit should deal with opening the zip (not sure I don't have a Mac yet), and the PDF will definitely open on your Mac.

Thanks everybody, that's much appreciated. Everything has now moved over nicely to the new server and the licence generator is working perfectly.

However...

I spotted a new bug when I was fiddling with the autoresponder stuff. I really can't say what it is, but David is working on it right now.

I love a bit of excitement don't you? My poor old blood pressure doesn't though... ;-)

Paul:

Adding two weeks or even a few days is just completely alien to me now. I used to procrastinate, twiddle, tweak, avoid, you name it, anything other than do a release when it was ready.

Now I've totally adopted the "Ready, fire! Aim..." concept.

I just get it out there as fast as I can, and when I get something wrong (I'm only human), I'll pick up the pieces and fix it later.

And I hope this "I'm (a lot) less than perfect" approach will help others to see that doing stuff is more important than thinking about it. ;-)

I emphathize with you on this one. I upgraded my web hosting w/o realizing they would physically move me to a different server.

I found out they didn't just move "lock, stock and barrel." I had to go back and make sure they also transfered the databases (delay #1)and the cron job (delay #2) and so forth.

Frank, if you would just add two weeks to your original estimate of release date or wait until it is solidly "OK" it would look better.

Keep up the good work!

You've already had your hiccup.

Frank,

It's good to see somebody being 100.1% honest about what's going on. We need some true leadership in this market and I'm glad to see your example.

But next time, can you get somebody besides Murphy for a business partner? :)

Best regards,
Tom

Hey Frank,

That's bad luck on the timing, but it does show that you can't always control external events, but you can choose how you react to them.

Being honest about what happened (especially admitting you don't want to take a risk) helps to establish credibility so I imagine most people empathise with your pain.

And I think making sure that everyone is going to get a shot at this simultaneously is the right thing to do.

Wouldn't be very nice to think you ended up paying more just because your neck of the woods didn't get the propagation for 24 hours.

I also like the idea that we'll be able to play with the script over the weekend - a more relaxed time for thinking about how, and where, to use it.

Good on you!

Hi Frank, I know what you are feeling. I also wanted to change nameservers for one of my web sites, all I'll say is "big daddy" lol.
Anyways I am looking forward to this new script as it is something I have been wanting to try for a while now.
Thanks for keeping us updated.
Take care.
