I have been paying attention lately to any quality information that has to do with product creation. I too am in the process of releasing my first ebook that will cover a lot of these things you have mentioned here, Frank. Issues like procrastination, self-doubt, fear of failing etc.

I would actually love if you could provide a testimonial for me.

But back to your blog topic these are all areas that I struggled to discipline myself with, but once one is able to short off all distractions, such as watching TV, checking emails periodically, posting on forums...and just focus on whatever goals you want to achieve, I agree the sky is the limit.

If anyone would like a review copy to provide me a testimonial please send me an email here:

"I believe the main things that hold you and me up is procrastination caused by the fear of failing"

Ain't it da truth, ain't it da truth - as the lion said in Wizard of Oz.

You're point about all the 'what ifs' is a very good one. That internal dialogue goes on for so many people.

Here's a little trick to deal with those questions: just add one word to the question to put the whole thing in perspective.

Examples:
What if it doesn't sell?
So what, if it doesn't sell.

What if I can't get any traffic?
So what, if you can't get any traffic.

So what? Who's dying if you can't [fill in your own fear here]?

So what if you fail? You've just learned something.

So what is a great question to use.

You can also try this:
What if you succeed?
What if you get a lot of traffic?
What if your product takes off?

"In fact a lot of geniuses have died paupers, so intelligence has nothing to do with it."

Very true, Frank. And I've known millionaires who were unhappy and poor people who were content. It's not all about the money, but it is about reaching your own potential - whatever that may be.

Great post Frank.

I'm currently taking the leap into product creation. I actually really like coming up with new ideas but I find if I sit on them too long, self-doubt creeps in and I end up doing nothing with them.

Fear of failure really is a big issue. What I keep telling myself is no one else really cares whether I fail or succeed, so why not just go for it. Carpe Diem and all that!

Cheers...Graham

Hi Frank,

I think that somewhere in there there's a feeling that the product just isn't going to hit the right mark. I go through this myself.

1. Is this product the right one.
2. What should I put in it.
3. Have I gone overboards. (remember that too big a product takes an inordinate amount of time to create)

etc etc

and you're right, it is a form of procrastination. I guess if you don't give it your best shot, then you are not going to get off the starting blocks.

Inertia.. kill it stone dead:-)
